HR Solutions: Help for Small Business

 

We get it. You are a small business without a big HR department. You are doing your best to manage your staff but ‘Human Resources Manager’ is one of many hats you wear on a daily basis.

Whether you have 5 employees or 500, your HR strategy is key to running a successful business. But, how do you stay on top of the ever changing HR trends?

Help is here! Join us at the HUBSPACE, for a concentrated half day workshop containing sessions specific to your small business needs.  By lunch time, you will leave with practical tips and tricks you can put in place right away, that will help you manage your HR needs in the office.

 

Selection and Recruitment

 

Finding the right person for a job can be extremely challenging. They need to fit the organizations culture, possess specific capabilities, and work well with your other team members. The first session in our Human Resource Workshop is selection and recruitment. You will walk away with a better understanding of recruitment processes and relevant selection methods. You will develop skills and confidence in interviewing new team members in order to produce an accurate assessment and understanding of the whole selection process.
 


Kristine Hunter, Talent Acquisition Specialist
 

Kristine Hunter is currently a talent acquisition specialist for Canfor where she sources and identifies great talent - she has created great sourcing initative's since joining Canfor and is excited to share her knowledge with local companies in Prince George. Kristine's previous position as Recruitment and Marketing Manager for Shecana International Schools bring wealth of knowledge and support for international recruitment initiatives. She also worked as a Recruitment Coordinator and then Talent Acquisition Manager for Mosaic North America that represented Fortune 500 companies such as Labatt, Rogers, Coco-Cola, Disney, and Microsoft. Previous to that, Kristine was a Promotions Manager for the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group. All of these organizations have pushed Kristine to learn quickly how to foster relationships with talented people, from entry level brand ambassador positions to full time sales and marketing positions.



 



Coaching For Success and Navagating Difficult Conversations
 


Do you have a strong performing employee that needs support in overcoming challenges in their work and are not sure how to help them? Have you ever avoided a difficult conversation with an employee? Or, actually had the difficult conversation but it didn't go as well as you would have liked? These situations are a regular conundrum for supervisors and managers in the workplace and this session will help you learn new, practical ways of dealing with the people side of your business. You will learn new strategies for working through challenging conversations and conflicts as well as a coaching approach for effectively leading and managing others. You will also explore new ways of coaching your team that supports positive relationships and sustainable behavioral change over the long term.
 

Kara Biles, CPHR, RPR

Kara is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources with over 10 years' HR experience in unionized and non-unionized environments, in both the public and private sectors. She is an experienced manager, talent strategist and leader in providing HR expertise, strategy, and advice.  She approaches situations in a consultative, people-oriented manner with a focus on achieving business results. In addition to her role as Manager, Learning and Talent with Canfor, she instructs part-time in the HR programs at both UNBC and CNC, is a Director with the Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President on the Board of Trustees with the Two Rivers Gallery and Past Chair of the Northern Advisory Council of the HR Management Association.



 

 

At the end of this workshop you will also have the opportunity to hear about the CPHR program. The CPHR program is an extremely important accreditation for any business person to have. We will discuss why it is important and how to get started in a quick 15 minute speech.
