Celebrate Mining Week at this Speaker Series Luncheon and learn why 2014 was an important year for the BC mining industry. 

Join us as Scott Broughton, Chair of the Mining Association of BC, talks about significant industry developments, including challenging commodity markets, the Supreme Court of Canada Tsilhqot’in decision, and the Mount 
Polley
 Tailings Dam breach.  

Mr. Broughton will also discuss what the BC mining industry is doing to position itself as a global leader in tailings management, environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Scott Broughton is senior mining executive with experience in mine development, operations, engineering & project economics, government relations, community engagement, project permitting, health & safety and regulatory matters.  Initially trained in deep shaft sinking & underground contract mining, his experience widened with a far-reaching engineering consulting practice in open pits, underground mines & tunneling, mine waste management, feasibility studies and hydroelectric projects. His evolving senior management and experience in public markets & finance led to a recognized entrepreneur, team-builder and mine developer. Received the 2008 Edgar A. Scholz Award for Excellence in Mine Development and the 2009 BC Mining and Sustainability Award.  Scott has lived and worked across British Columbia, North America, South America & Caribbean, Mexico, North & Central Africa, Australia and Papua New Guinea. As a result he has diverse geographic work experience and a reputation for commitment to corporate social responsibility (with recognition in 2005 UBC study) in unique cultural and community settings.

 He is Chair of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC), representing operating companies, mines and smelters in the province providing leadership in policy development.
