From positive economic indicators such as building permits to referendum results and the next steps. Finally, a year update on the strategic plan, there are many exciting and challenging initiatives that are changing the face of Prince George.
As we close one year and get ready to start another, there will be no better opportunity to hear about what’s in store for Prince George and how Chamber members can help to shape our community’s future.
Mayor Lyn Hall:
Mayor Lyn Hall has been an active member of the Prince George community for over 30 years. Lyn first entered local politics in 2001 when he won a seat as a school trustee on the Prince George School Board. He spent 10 years on the board holding various positions, including chair and vice-chair of the Management and Finance Committee. In 2011, Lyn ran and successfully won a seat on Prince George City Council. As a councillor, Lyn was a member of several committees and community groups. In 2014, he was successful in his campaign for mayor of Prince George. Mayor Hall and his wife Lorrelle are the parents of twin daughters, both of whom graduated from UNBC and played soccer for the UNBC Timberwolves .
City Involvement: Director, Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT). Chair, Select Advisory Committee on Economic Development. City of Prince George Finance & Audit Committee. President, Northern Medical Programs Trust. Representative, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, to the Municipal Finance Authority (RDFFG). Director, Community Foundation.
Community Involvement: Chair, Prince George Child Development Centre. Coach, Soccer & Ringette. 2001 Co-chair BC Special Olympics Summer Games.
City Manager Kathleen Soltis:
Kathleen Soltis is a member of a "pioneer" Prince George family. Her father, Dr. John (Jack) McKenzie, was born in Prince George in 1917. Kathleen was raised in Prince George; then moved to Vancouver to attend UBC. After obtaining a BA in Economics and an MBA from UBC, Kathleen returned home to Prince George.
Kathleen's public sector career began with the federal government (Canada Employment and Immigration Commission) administering grant programs. In 1986, Kathleen began to work for the City of Prince George as a Personnel Officer. In 1989, she was promoted to Director of Human Resources and a few years later she became the Director of Corporate Services. After a number of acting assignments, in 2015, Kathleen became the City Manager. Kathleen loves working for the City of Prince George where things are always changing and there are many opportunities to learn, develop, and contribute to the community. She is fortunate to work with an excellent team of elected officials and civic employees.
